Description of Galapagos (Spanish for giant tortoise)

This is the latest of my Peru, Ecuador and Galapagos body of work. I took several canvas boards with me in my suitcase so that I could paint during our down time on our recent trip to South America. I blocked in this piece there and finished it at home in my studio. I have competed several paintings that describe what we saw during our multiple trips to Peru in the last few years. However, on this trip, we had the privilege of experiencing the unique Galapagos Island culture and wildlife.

These islands were named after the giant tortoises (“galapagos” in Spanish) found there. They are massive in size and weight. We saw them everywhere on the first island we visited (Santa Cruz). These gentle giants have no natural predators and therefore grow and thrive on these remote islands.

Giclee canvas prints are also available for $46 (11″ x 14″). Contact me for details …
