To the rescue …

Our neighborhood recently suffered the loss of two homes that were consumed by wildfire. It was a harrowing experience, while at the same time, a galvanizing one in terms of the human connection. As we were being evacuated and could see the homes of our friends already on fire, the only thoughts racing through my mind were that of wanting to help any way I could.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, our neighborhood has bonded together in a miraculous way. The outpouring of compassion, friendship, support and love has been life changing for me.

As a way to honor the families who lost their homes and to say, “Thank you” to those who worked so hard to save us and our homes, I painted this poignant piece. I had seen a similar photo once before that one of my associates had showed me and I wondered if I would ever know how to paint such a scene. As soon as we were allowed to go back into our home, I set out to try it. I love how it turned out … hope you enjoy it, too!
