Description of Tuscan Steps

I had fun experimenting with “how to” make the stucco in this little piece look more like the real thing … rough and hand-textured. With oils, it is much easier to do, but acrylics just don’t have the heavy body of viscous oils.

I learned that I could create effective texture by applying some heavy gesso with a knife and/or bristle brush prior to doing any painting, letting that dry and then, start the underpainting process. Very fun …! This is my latest installment in my “Colors of Tuscany” body of work.
